Birding Alaska's Rainforest

original?tenant=vbu-digital

At Icy Strait Birding Tours, we are focused on providing a quality Alaskan birding and nature experience specifically for cruise visitors. Our 3.5-hour excursions are arranged to be able to see the maximum number of bird species in the area, while still being short enough to allow visitors enough time to explore the other attractions that Icy Strait Point and the town of Hoonah offer while their ship is in port. Our main focus is birds, but this is truly an immersive nature excursion. World-class humpback whale watching areas are all around, and the island we live on happens to have one of the densest populations of brown bears in the world. We share plant and animal identification, natural and indigenous history, and the ecology connecting us all. This is a tour for all lovers of nature!

As an added bonus, a portion of the proceeds from each tour sale is donated to the local Audubon chapter. Come experience the unique bird life of Southeast Alaska, and help fund local conservation initiatives at the same time!

Your Guide

Owner and guide, Amy Courtney, was raised in the bush near the village of Hoonah, in the heart of Southeast Alaska. She has been fascinated by the local birds (Varied Thrush is a particular favorite) for as long as she can remember, and enjoys sharing her slice of paradise and the birds in it with people from all over the world. She served as a Juneau Audubon Society board member for five years, and currently volunteers as an EMT in her hometown of Hoonah. Amy and her husband, Thomas, have three young children who love bugs, birds, plants, and getting muddy.
