Birding Tours
Icy Strait
Icy Strait Point, the only privately-owned cruise ship port in the United States, is where our tours begin. The cruise ship dock is just outside the left side of the photo. A second dock has been built since this photo was taken, and is located near the center-top of the photo.
Regularly scheduled birding tours depart 1-3 times per day, most cruise ship call days, between the last week of April and the second week of September.
If you are cruising with any of the following cruise lines, you should be able to book directly from their websites. The tour is called "Discovering Birds of Hoonah." Some cruise lines may not show all 2024 booking availabilities on their website yet.

New Booking Options!
Starting in May 2023, we are now running two vans with two guides! One will be operating tours booked through the cruise lines as in the past. The other will be taking bookings independently through FareHarbor. Independent booking will allow us to take clients from more than one cruise line on a tour (something the cruise lines do not allow when booking through them). It also gives us the ability to communicate with clients before a tour if necessary. If your cruise line doesn't offer this tour, or if you prefer to book independently, check out our calendar below. Note that my tours booked through the cruise lines begin earlier and end later in the season (April 28 -- Sep 15) than my independent tours. If you don't see a time slot that works for you on here or on your cruise line's website, please contact me via email and we'll try to work something out.
We are excited to be partnering with Hoonah Travel Adventures, another local tour company, for pick-up and drop-off of independently-booked clients. They are selling my tour on their website as well as shuttling clients from the "Excursion Hub" at Icy Strait Point into the town of Hoonah (5min ride) to meet your birding guide. Full instructions are included in the confirmation email after booking.
